The Town is surrounded by three Municipal Districts; M.D. of Peace #135, Northern Sunrise County, and M.D. of Northern Lights #22. The M.D. of Birch Hills #19 is also within the area. Peace River is the second largest centre in northwestern Alberta, providing a wide range of services to the surrounding region. Local area outlooks such as Kaufman Hill, Sagitawa Lookout and the Twelve Foot Davis Gravesite all offer a spectacular view of the Peace River Valley.
